Item 2. Properties.
At December 31, 2021, our portfolio was comprised of 390 wholly owned properties. The gross book value of real estate assets at cost plus certain acquisition costs, before depreciation and purchase price allocations and less impairment write downs, of these properties totaled $7.2 billion at December 31, 2021. As of December 31, 2021, eight properties with gross book value of real estate assets at cost plus certain acquisition costs, before depreciation and purchase price allocations and less impairment write downs, of $177.4 million and a net book value of $118.3 million were subject to secured financing and finance lease obligations with an aggregate principal balance of $69.1 million.
