The 7-day free trial is on Pro only, and a card is required. You are not charged until the trial ends; cancel any time before then and pay nothing. Max and Epic bill from day one and have no trial — cancel whenever you like. Plans auto-renew until cancelled. One trial per customer. Secure checkout by Stripe. Educational only, not financial advice. Subscriptions are sold with no uptime guarantee and no refunds except where the law requires one — see the Terms of Service for the full billing and refund policy.
Broken into days, Pro is about $0.66 a day and Max about $1.61 (monthly price × 12 ÷ 365). For scale: the going rate for retail research subscriptions is roughly $20 a month with the research itself behind the paywall — here the research, screeners and calculators stay free on every plan, and paying only raises the AI generation limit.
Why there is a limit at all
Every new analysis runs a frontier AI model over real filings, and that costs us money per run whether or not you find it useful. Rather than hide that behind a vague fair-use policy, the number is on the card.
Any analysis that already exists is served from cache to everyone, on every plan, forever. It cost us nothing to serve again, so we do not charge for it or count it.
Asking for an analysis that does not exist yet spends a generation. That is the part with a real bill attached, so it is the only part we cap.
Because the cache is shared, the more a ticker is researched the more likely your request is already answered. Widely followed names are usually free even on the Free plan.
Does this pay for itself?
We are not going to claim a return figure. Nobody can honestly tell you what a research tool will do for your results, and any site that puts a number on it is guessing. Here is how to work it out instead.
Count the hours you currently spend pulling filings, checking insider and Congress activity, and assembling a picture by hand. Multiply by what an hour of your time is worth.
Add up what you already pay for screeners, data terminals and newsletters that overlap with what is here. Some of it is genuinely not replaceable; some of it is.
If those two numbers together are smaller than the plan price, do not buy it. Use the free tier, which is a real product and not a demo, and revisit when that changes.
Who this is for, and who it is not
Being wrong about this wastes your money and our support time, so it is worth being blunt.
A good fit
- You do your own research and want the sourcing done faster, not the thinking done for you.
- You read filings, or you want to start, and you want each number tied back to where it came from.
- You follow Congress, insider and institutional activity and want it in one place.
- You want to check an AI’s reasoning rather than take its word for it.
A bad fit
- You want buy, sell or hold calls. We do not make them, on any plan, at any price.
- You want price targets or forecasts. We do not publish them, because we cannot ground them.
- You want signals to trade mechanically. This is research, and it never places a trade.
- You want real-time tick data. Our prices are delayed and labelled as such.
How to leave
We would rather tell you this before you pay than have you find out afterwards.
- Cancel yourself, in two clicks — account → billing portal. No email, no phone call, no retention queue, and nobody asks you why.
- Your access runs to the end of the period you already paid for, and the plan does not renew after that.
- The free tools keep working. Cancelling drops you to the free tier, which is the whole toolset — it does not lock you out. Every calculator, screener, calendar and filing page you used before you subscribed is still there afterwards.
- Your data leaves with you. The trading journal exports to CSV and JSON in one click, free and unwatermarked, whether or not you have ever paid us.
- Refunds: fees already charged are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise — which is why the trial exists, and why we would rather you cancel during it than pay for a month you did not want.
If a cancellation ever does not work as described here, email us and we will sort it out.
Questions
What counts as an AI generation?
One brand-new analysis: a research brief, a move explainer, a Bull vs Bear committee run, or one ticker in the Watchlist Scanner. Reading an analysis that already exists is free and unlimited on every plan, including Free.
Do reports I have already opened count against my limit?
No. Once an analysis exists for a ticker it is cached and served to everyone at no cost, so re-reading it never uses a generation. The limit only applies when you ask us to produce something that does not exist yet, which is the only case that costs us anything to run.
What happens when I hit my daily limit?
Nothing breaks. Every page keeps working and every existing analysis stays readable. You just cannot trigger a brand-new generation until the limit resets, and the app tells you exactly how long that is.
When does the limit reset?
At midnight UTC, not 24 hours after your last run. Depending on your timezone that can be sooner than you expect, so the app shows the real wait rather than telling you to come back tomorrow.
Is anything free forever?
Yes, and it is most of the product. Every calculator, screener, workspace, glossary entry and guide, plus the Congress, insider, 13F and CEO engines, are free with no account. Paid plans exist because AI generations cost us real money per run; the underlying data does not.
Is there a free trial?
Pro includes a 7-day free trial with a card up front. You are not charged until the trial ends, and cancelling before then costs nothing. Max and Epic have no trial and bill from day one: a free week of 100 generations a day is worth more than the month it would be selling, and Epic is scheduled human time rather than software. Cancel either whenever you like.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes, from the billing portal in your account, and you keep access through the end of the period you have already paid for. Plans auto-renew until you cancel. Refunds: we do not refund time already billed except where the law requires it — the free trial exists precisely so you never have to pay to find out whether the product is for you.
Does StockTools give investment advice?
No, and that is a deliberate limit rather than a disclaimer. We are not an investment adviser and we do not make buy, sell or hold recommendations, including on Epic. What you get is what the filings and our engines say, with every figure traced to a source, so you can reach your own conclusions.
Where does the data come from?
SEC EDGAR for filings and disclosures, market data providers for prices, and CoinGecko for crypto. Every generated analysis cites the specific evidence it rests on, and any claim our own checks cannot tie back to a source is removed before you see it.
Educational only, not financial advice. StockTools is not an investment adviser, makes no buy, sell or hold recommendations, and never places a trade. AI can make mistakes, so every figure is cited and worth checking against the underlying filing. See what each engine does.
