Item 2. Properties Our principal domestic and international executive offices are located in Indianapolis. At December 31, 2022, we owned nine production, distribution, and corporate administrative sites in the United States (U.S.), including Puerto Rico. These facilities contain an aggregate of approximately 8.1 million square feet of floor area dedicated to production, distribution, and administration. Major production sites include Indianapolis, Indiana; Carolina, Puerto Rico; and Branchburg, New Jersey. In 2023, we expect production to commence at an additional approximately 0.4 million square foot facility in Durham, North Carolina, with other production facilities and expansions of production facilities expected to come online in future periods. We own production and distribution sites in seven countries outside the U.S., containing an aggregate of approximately 4.6 million square feet of floor area. Major production sites include facilities in Ireland, France, Spain, Italy, and China. In the U.S., our research and development facilities contain an aggregate of approximately 4.5 million square feet of floor area, primarily consisting of owned facilities located in Indianapolis and smaller leased sites primarily in San Diego, California; San Francisco, California; and New York, New York. Outside the U.S., we own a small research and development facility in Spain and lease a small site in Singapore. We believe that none of our properties is subject to any encumbrance, easement, or other restriction that would detract materially from its value or impair its use in the operation of the business. The buildings we own are of varying ages and in good condition.
